Resident Camp Program
After 30 years, our Explorer Program is still our pride and joy. Explorers live, eat and play in the out of doors for 5 days and 4 nights, which means they are able to accomplish some incredible things, both as individuals and as a group. After all…why should the fun stop at 4:00? Our Explorers program is no country club experience, your young adventurer will sleep in a tent close to the earth and learn to cook for the group over an open fire. Each Explorer week in 2012 has a new and exciting theme….it may be tough to choose just one!
Session 2: July 9-13 “Newbie Week” 10yrs + $479
A great introductory week to our overnight program. Kids will be so busy day to day that by the time Friday rolls around they’ll forget ever being nervous! Your Explorer Newbie should be prepared for challenges, adventure, making new friends and lasting memories!
Session 3: July 16-20 “Wet. Wild. Wonderful.”
10yrs + $479
This week we’ll be in, on, above and below the water!
Kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, stream hikes, and even an intro to scuba diving in our onsite pool are a few of the activities we’ll have planned! A sense of adventure required!
Session 3: july 16-20 “Adventure Race”
12yrs+ $499
Our one day adventure race in 2011 was so incredible we deemed it necessary to dedicate an entire week to decoding clues, solving puzzles, and working together from adventure to adventure. Possible activities include kayaking, ropes course, rock-climbing, hiking, snorkeling, river canoeing, cooperative games, orienteering, biking, intro to scuba, caving….but it’s a mystery! Adventure racers will utilize our resident camp in Westfield as their home base, but will have the opportunity for a night at an off-campus location!
Session 4: July 23-27 “Eat. Sleep. Climb”
10yrs+ $479
A week filled with setting personal goals. During the week we’ll tackle our low and high challenge course, learn about equipment, safety and skills required for a safe climbing experience, and even have a day of climbing out on a real rock. Save some energy because in between all that climbing we’ll be sure to squeeze in some hiking, river time and games! Climbers will be based at out resident camp location in Westfield.
Session 6: Aug 6-10 “Mystery Week”
10yrs + – $479
Back by popular demand. We’d tell you more but….It’s a mystery! Anything fun, exciting, challenging and silly is fair game. Be prepared for adventures both large and small! Don’t forget to bring an open-mind and positive attitude.
*A “Parents Eyes-Only” itinerary will be sent out prior to camp start date!
LEADERSHIP QUEST
Two Week Resident Leadership Program 12-15 Year Olds
Session 6 & 7 Aug 6-17 (No Weekend) - $989
This is where our program really starts to shift focus from being an active participant in the outdoor adventure world, to being a focused, talented and responsible leader. This two-week program (No weekends) was designed for kids who are looking to do more, know more and share their knowledge (new and old) with others. Our most experienced staff will lead this group on daily adventures while showing and sharing with them the important different roles safety, responsibility, emergency preparation, self-confidence and leadership skills play in outdoor programming.
Leaders in Training (LIT) Program
Ages 14yrs+ – Two Week Sessions (No Weekends)
Our leadership programs have grown to become the greatest source of pride for us here at WEU. These programs are thoughtfully designed with the goal of challenging your young leader to challenge themselves, grow as an individual and make a difference. Leaders will learn what it is like to take care of themselves, their peers and mentor younger groups in the out of doors. Communication, problem-solving, trust, cooperation, preparation and survival skills are just a few of the important goals we will be busy working towards.
