Outdoor Wilderness Leaders “The OWL’S”
OWL’s Brief History Lesson
OWL’s started in 1979. It has been teaching the next generation of leaders since that time at WEU. Members need to be invited to join, if a camper receives 3 recommendations from staff, administration during camp they are eligible to join for the following year as a fledging OWL. After one successful year they become an OWL. OWL’s have Backpacked all over New England, rode their bikes to Pennsylvania, New York, Maine & New Brunswick Canada. They have Scuba dove in the Bahamas and Curacao. In addition they have assisted WEU in leading thousands of participants in many different adventure experiences. Many OWL’s grow to become Wilderness Experiences Unlimited Summer Camp staff. As the confidence, certifications and leadership ability improves this is a logical step for some OWL’s.

TRAIL RUNNING CLUB Week #5 (April 27th)
Meeting at Stanley Park – 4pm. Heading out for a nice 3 mile trail loop.
Saturday MAY 7th “Let’s climb a mountain”
Save the date – we’ll spend the whole day out in the woods, hiking to see some great views of our area and it lights up with the beauty of spring!
MAY 14th “Kayak Demo Day”
KAYAK DEMO DAY! EVERYONE IS EXPECTED TO LEND A HELPING HAND WITH THIS AMAZING EVENT. Parents – come up to Hampton Ponds to see your OWL at work (and of course to try out some new boats) Cross your fingers for a beautiful day!

Holyoke Soldiers Home Ice Cream Social – April 10th
Once again our OWL’s brought lots of energy, laughter and sweets to the veterans. A great Sunday afternoon for us all. Hoping to schedule a date in May as well!
